At the end of 1986, the first five or six people launched the idea in a dialogue on “women should also participate in public affairs” in Taipei City. On January 6, 1987, more than 30 people gathered together and took on a commitment to “walking out of the kitchen and joining in the society”, and made a vow to become a Taiwanese citizen who “has the courage to speak up, acts swiftly, and is willing to take on responsibility” from now on. The “Homemakers United Foundation” was therefore established.
