Employment in High-Emitting Industries and Share of Rank-and-file Workers
High-emitting industries face significant challenges in the net-zero transition, from the implementation of Taiwan’s carbon fee, to the adoption of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAMs) in export markets, and increasing supply chain requirements. Such challenges may lead to downsizing, changes in production processes, and transformations of business models. Ensuring that the rights and interests of workers and other stakeholders are not undermined by corporate decarbonization and transition efforts is a core purpose of just transitions. This chart highlights the share of rank-and-file workers in Taiwan’s high-carbon industries, serving as an initial identification of “impact hot spots” that require particular attention under net-zero pathways.
